Where I get my inspiration for my A.I. songs from

Image
One of my hobbies is creating realistic-sounding A.I.-Generated music using Chat GPT and Suno. I've released this music under the alias "Mike the Guy who Likes A.I." A listener on SoundCloud recently asked me about my inspiration when it comes to making this music. The answer is varied and complicated, and SoundCloud's internal messenger wouldn't take my lengthly reply, so I turned it into a blog post. Inspiration tends to vary. For example my Christian songs came about when my wife's favorite local Christian radio station got sold off, and the idea came up to just make some of our own Christian songs by running Bible passages and my wife's inspirational ideas through Chat GPT.  Some of my earliest country songs required zero inspiration, as all I did was ask Chat GPT for a list of potential country song titles, and then followed-up by asking it for lyrics for each title. Then I took whatever melody Suno came up with that sounded good, only picking the mus...

Fan Theory: What if John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High" was actually a song about a Time Lord?

Image
Everyone knows that the John Denver song "Rocky Mountain High" is nothing more than beautiful country/western folk poetry. But if you ignore this fact, and interpret the wording literally, it soon becomes apparent that there may be more to this classic tune than meets the eye-- an epic science fiction story at its heart... or should I say its two hearts? Let's analyze the lyrics and find out! He was born in the summer of his 27th year --Perhaps early in life, a Time Lord is experiencing his first regeneration. Coming home to a place he'd never been before --For a Time Lord, home is wherever you travel to. He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again --Again, a reference to time travel and regeneration. You might say he found a key for every door --Only a sonic screwdriver could truly qualify as a universal key. When he first came to the mountains his life was far away, on the road and hanging by a song --A vague reference to the immense distances trav...

What if Tolkien's Dwarves were marsupials?

(This post has been moved here from my opinions blog. It was originally published on November 26, 2020) Tolkien’s Dwarves as a hypothetical remnant population of undiscovered marsupial humanoids coexisting with multiple hominid lineages alongside a technologically advanced, spacefaring civilization in ice-age Sundaland: A speculative thought experiment in fictionally derived paleoxenoethnogeography   [Is that a word? It is now.]   By Michael Goble, BS In J.R.R. Tolkien's  The Lord of the Rings , multiple races of intelligent beings co-existed in a land called Middle Earth in some distant era of the past lost to history. These races, as is commonly known, included Men, Elves, Hobbits, Orcs, and Dwarves. Tolkien's work is, of course, a work of fiction inspired by Medieval Norse and Anglo-Saxon mythology, and is said to be set in "the old world" i.e. Europe in the distant past, ostensibly during some sort of warm, unidentified interglacial period, as pointed out by sc...

On the subject of Adam, Eve, Eden, and prehistoric humans

Image
(This post has been moved here from my opinions blog. It was originally published on May 10, 2020) The anthropological and fossil evidence of modern humans existing for many tens of thousands of years is overwhelming. It doesn't seem right to me that all those ancient humans who lived and died more than six thousand years ago would not be considered children of God. How do you reconcile the story of Adam in the scriptures with the anthropological record of prehistoric humans? Jeffrey R. Holland said " ...there was an actual Adam and Eve who fell from an actual Eden, with all he consequences that fall carried with it. I do not know the details of what happened on this planet before that, but I do know these two were created under the divine hand of God, that for a time they lived alone in a paradisiacal setting where there was neither human death nor future family, and that through a sequence of choices they transgressed a commandment of God which required that they leave their...
